What We Do

FCCP is a project run solely by volunteers. Our aim is to responsibly care for and reduce the number of strays in the Famagusta area through the implementation of a regular neutering program. Working together with the expertise of local vets and the support of local businesses, hotels and individuals we will monitor their health and where possible find suitable homes. Statistics throughout the world prove that a neutering program is by far the most successful way of reducing areas over populated by feral cats.

We have a tragic situation here in Cyprus as now the island is in crisis financially the animals who are already suffering terribly here will be suffering even more!

The island is already overpopulated with stray cats and a neutering programme is desperately needed to control this problem.

Every year many thousands of cats are poisoned, shot or rounded up and dumped in remote places and left to fend for themselves after being fed by tourists who visit in the summer. When the season ends the few hotels and restaurants that do stay open all year then get inundated with many cats, by now used to human contact and feeding who then become a problem and it is then that these awful things happen.

We are a small group of cat lovers who for the last few years have done all we can to try to get as many of these strays neutered as possible to avoid this happening but we have been fighting a losing battle due to lack of support and funds.

We are in the process of setting up meetings with all of the hoteliers in the Famagusta area, the tour operators and the airlines to see if we can work together to reduce and monitor the number of cats, keeping them healthy and re homing wherever we can.

We NEED help from outside of Cyprus especially now as many people have lost their jobs and need all they have to feed their own families. It is left to the people here who really love and care about the cats to do something about the situation.

We need to raise as much money as possible in order to implement this and we are asking for donations no matter how small to help us get this underway. (This also includes donations of food or medication such as wormer, flea and tick treatment etc). Also we are asking for people with connections in any of the above organisations to help us to raise awareness of this problem through their advertising and what we as FCCP are trying to achieve.
